Electric tailgating
Sometimes the best way forward is looking back.
Each of these Super Issue conversations is special in its own right. This one is no exception. When I met Dave, he was a WRX-driving decal guy looking to organize a rallyx event. Next thing I knew, he was building his own EV—out of an old Toyota Hilux.
And talk about putting your money where you mouth is, Dave left the decal and signage business to work in the solar industry. He’s spent the last several years daily driving a solar-powered vehicle.
Some days are better than others.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, though—even living in Arizona, where it’s almost ALWAYS sunny. You can love, believe in, and directly support the solar industry, but spending your days on Arizona rooftops installing solar panels takes a toll.
Sustainability is the name of the game. Dave’s story is interesting because, while we talk about electric vehicles and how any reasonably competent gearhead can build one, we also talk about the desire to change things up a bit and work towards a livelihood that isn’t so physically demanding.
The decal guy returns!
