#TGPCOTY
As 2019 comes to a close, we’ve been asking gearheads like us how their 2019s went and what they’re looking forward to in 2020. Where all the other automotive outlets start announcing their cars of the year (#COTY), we’re more interested in the stories and accomplishments our friends and members care about most.
We call it Care of the Year.
Dave Hymers has been making big, scary moves all year. There’s a lot riding on 2020.
LOOKING BACK
What’s the most important gearhead story of 2019?
I don’t really have a personal one, other than my truck is still going after almost 16,000 miles.
In general it gives me the warm fuzzies to see more forms of motorsport turning to EVs and the continual grassroots gearheads who turn electric, including the Napoleon Motorsports drift car. That was a fairly big story for me because I remember saying, “Huh—they used the same battery chemistry as me.” That was pretty unique, using a Tesla drivetrain but not Tesla batteries.
What feels like YOUR biggest accomplishment of 2019?
Leaving a job I had grown to loathe mentally and physically but in an industry I generally liked. I had to jump.
What’s something important you learned this year?
How to put a small business in the black – persistence and time (and a large dose of friendly customers). It took 10 months,.I have no idea if that’s good or bad, lol.
LOOKING FORWARD
What’s your most important goal for 2020?
Get settled into my new job, possibly re-train, again, and maybe hunt for another job.
What’s it gonna take to achieve it?
Hard work and study, a supportive family and safety net. It’s also going to take a huge dose of “Well, what else?”
How can we help?
Buy stickers 😉 … or advice worth buying, if you think I’m worth it, lol.
Plug in with Dave!
