I’ve wasted a lot of time and money.

Or have I?

That’s the power of sunk costs. You’ve already sunk so much time and money into that project, walking away now would mean you wasted all of it, right? You’d have to fix it anyway in order to sell it—and then the next owner would benefit from all your hard work and money.

Except, that’s bullshit.

And, deep down inside, you know it.

September 2018 marks nine years of Gearbox Magazine. Nine.

GBXM opened many doors for me—but it’s time to move on. I’ve sunk thousands of dollars and hours into that project. Walking away like this absolutely feels like I’m wasting all of it. There’s a voice in my head screaming at me to fix it and keep going.

But even if I had the time and money go back through 1,000 posts, fix all those broken images, links, and grammar, I’d still be left with a site that, despite its best efforts, was too often trying to be too much to too many people.

And that’s bullshit.
