So this guy built an all-motor Jeep back in the day.

And I’ll be damned if we’d stopped recording 10 minutes before he told me the story. Even so, Carter Beckworth is the real deal.

Note: The audio may not reflect the correct episode number or link. Brian lost count of episodes so we had to re-number them.

And since I just realized I uploaded our conversation without the usual TGP intro…

Recorded live in a chilly Phoenix garage after the kid went to bed, this is The Gearhead Project.

My guest today is Carter Mercer Beckworth. He’s a gearhead like us living in the great state of Texas. We met back in the earliest days of Adventurist Life when I interviewed him about his beautiful old Land Cruiser, and we’ve kept in touch here and there online ever since.

I’ve always got a good vibe from this guy, but this was actually the first time we’ve ever spoken in real time. You know what I discovered? Despite living very different lives, we have a LOT in common. Much as you can learn about someone online, on Facebook, or forums or whatever, nothing beats a real conversation.

And this was the quintessential campfire conversation—even though I was sitting in a garage next to a space heater 1,000 miles away. Here’s to that eventual campfire chat in the real world.
