I need to read more books.
I average about one book a year.
It’s not that I don’t like reading, I’m just always reading things online.
But get this, the average reader can read around 200 words per minute (wpm) and retain about 60% of the information presented. If the average non-fiction book runs 50,000 words, that means the average reader could read the average non-fiction book in about four hours. (200wpm x 60min = 15,000wph)
Go figure.
I took a simple reading speed and comprehension test on this site (took less than five minutes). The result, however casual, was that I read at 460wpm with a 73% retention rate. This gives me an efficient words per minute (ewpm) rate of 335ewpm.
I should be able to read a 50,000-word book in about 2.5 hours.
15 minutes a day X 30 days in a month = 7.5 hours a month.
I should be able to easily go from one book a year to three per month.
Might just change my whole life.
Anyone want to start up a 15-minutes-a-day gearhead book club? LOL.
