Things got to change!

I want 2019 to be one of the best years of my life—but that’s only going to happen if I learn from the mistakes made in 2018 (and prior). New Year’s resolutions are more like hopes and dreams if you ask me. I’m going to connect the dots between my thoughts and destiny in the year ahead.

Ah, New Year’s resolutions. AKA: Hopes & Dreams.

Not that there’s anything wrong with hopes and dreams, of course. We just tend to gloss over the reasons why we’re in the situations we’re in when we come up with those resolutions.

What good is a resolution if…

A. You don’t figure out why you haven’t already achieved it?

B. You aren’t particularly resolute about changing anything but the goal?

Why do we need to lose weight, or make more money, or find some other big change? What are the root causes of the disappointments leading us to make such resolutions?

For years, I’ve been coming back to the GPS metaphor. The only way GPS tells us how to get where we’re going is because it’s so accurate about telling us exactly where we are.

The more I think about the gaps between where I am and where I want to be, the more I see I am both my secret weapon and my own saboteur. If it is to be, it is up to me.

My action plan for 2019?

Watch my thoughts, because my thoughts become my words.

Watch my words, because my words become my actions (or lack of action).

Watch my actions, because my actions become my habits—good and bad.

Watch my habits, because my habits become my character.

Watch my character, because my character becomes my destiny.
